For almost two months, my street was blocked between my house and the interstate I take to work. Of course I had no idea it was going to be closed until I was on my way to work, running a few minutes behind. I had to drive a mile each direction to go around the obstacle. Although driving around the roadblock wasn’t necessarily a “challenge,” it was still unexpected and made it more difficult to get to my destination. Likewise, we are guaranteed to face struggles and challenges along the path of this thing called life. Despite the situation surrounding your challenges, it can be overwhelming and frightening to think you’re facing these alone. The good news is, we don’t have to.
Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:9
Think about your current situation. Are you struggling with your finances, fearing you won’t be able to pay all your bills? Are you trying to study your way through PA school while all your roommates are giggling downstairs as they’re on Pinterest just watching TV together (Never happened to me. Or did it?)? Are you dealing with the unexpected loss of a loved one? Are you training in a new career that seems completely overwhelming? While these situations are different from one another, they are similar in that they are tricky if we try to overcome them on our own.
We cannot handle all of life’s challenges on our own because we weren’t meant to do so. Joshua 1:9 says, “God is with you wherever you go.” He should be your “right-hand-man” so to speak. If you ask God for direction, He will surely go ahead of you and never leave you. Be strong and courageous. You have the power of the Holy Spirit within you. And there is nothing to difficult for God.
Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord will personally go ahead of you. He will be with you; he will neither fail you nor abandon you. Deuteronomy 31:8
Life is one big obstacle course—it is unpredictable and never goes as planned. Every day there is going to be a new challenge—tough situations, difficult individuals, and temptations. But every day God will be there, right by your side.
What challenges are you currently trying to face on your own? Try asking God for His direction, and He will show you the right path. The Lord directs the steps of the godly (Psalm 37:23), but we must ask Him for His help. As you incorporate God into your daily life, you will become more aware of His presence. Spend time alone with God this week and ask for His help and guidance. You won’t regret it.
